After Brentwood’s 2024 triumph over Northern at New Road, Worcester, the long road to Lord’s starts this weekend as the 2025 ECB National Club Championship gets underway on Sunday 13th April, with over 250 clubs from across England and Wales dreaming of glory in the country’s premier 40-over knockout competition.

From Cornwall to Cumbria, and Kent to Yorkshire, amateur cricketers will take to the field hoping to emulate Brentwood, who triumphed at the Home of Cricket in the 2024 final. With the chance to walk through the famous Long Room in September, motivation will be high for clubs making the journey from preliminary rounds all the way to the national stages.

This year’s competition once again begins with regional group stages, offering local derbies, fresh match-ups, and the chance for emerging clubs to test themselves against some of the country’s most established teams. A number of sides – including Wanstead & Snaresbrook, Ormskirk, South Northumberland, and Wimbledon – have received byes into later rounds, but for many, the challenge begins right away

The journey starts this Sunday 13th April with 27 Preliminary Round 1 games across the 16 groups.

The path to Lord’s is not only long but relentless. After this Sunday, sides will need to progress through multiple rounds, including group finals in mid-June, before reaching the national last 16 in July. Quarter-finals and semi-finals follow, all building to the grand final on Saturday 20 September 2025.

With so many potential storylines – from giant killings to dramatic super overs – the Club Championship remains one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the recreational cricket calendar and we’ll be with the competition all the way!

Whether it’s a seasoned campaigner or an underdog on the rise, each club begins with the same hope: to follow in Brentwood’s footsteps and be crowned National champions at Lord’s.

Let the journey begin on the Road to Lords 2025!
