Week 7 saw Didsbury’s winning streak ended on a generally tricky day for batting in the Prem, leaving Alvanley as the only 1st XI side with a perfect record.
PREMIER DIVISION
Leaders Didsbury were held at Chester BH, the hosts digging in to stave off defeat and, in a show of spirited defiance, Josh Leach hit the last ball of the match for six to deny Dids two extra draw pts. All was going swimmingly for CBH after they put Dids in and reduced them to 75-5, but a fabulous counter-attack
spearheaded by skipper Nick Anderson (81) and Steve Green (66) saw the pair add a sparkling 137 in 19 overs, the Dids last pair of Will Street & Liam Booth then jauntily taking 45 off the last 6 to propel their side to 294-9. Alex Money (70) and Rick Moore (66) carefully added 111 in 25 overs as CBH, despite a late burst of wkts, finished on 235-8.
Timperley have thus found themselves in second spot after a gripping 2 wkt win over a Brooklands side that were 16-5 in no time at Stockport Rd, Chris Page taking all five. Page finished with 6-47 but had to wait a while for that sixth as a superb fightback led by the returning Caleb Jones (66) in tandem with Christian Jacobs (42) and AJ Hart (59) got Brooklands upto an improbable 199. The reply was nip and tuck, with a Timpers slide from 175-5 to 179-8 having the home crowd in perturbation before Page finished his day with the bat, 17 helping his side secure a 2 wkt win ahead of their trip to Didsbury next Sat. Hyde are just three pts back after their third straight win, their visit to Alderley Edge ultimately a happy one although not without its alarms. AE crashed from 45-2 to 87-7, the tail valiantly getting them upto 151, which looked for a time like it might be plenty as Hyde were in a real mess at 75-6 in reply. However, Rian Maisuria
(60) and Andrew Jackson (45) patiently and carefully added an unbroken 80 together to seal a 4 wkt win.
There was joy for Widnes, who finally got their first league win of 2025 by 5 wkts at Bowdon after a determined reply to the hosts’ 181, Aaqib Uppal (53* off 112 bs) and Aaron Soni (59 off 39) making a contrasting but effective pair as they added 75 for the 5th which broke the back of the chase. Dan Newton was Lindow’s star in their much-needed 5 wkt win at Neston, the Cheshire all-rounder smashing an imperious 97 off 68 balls after earlier taking 3-34, Neston managing only 155 with the visitors knocking off the target in just 27 overs. Luke Robinson shook off his modest start to the season by hammering 86 off 58 balls at Oxton to propel Nantwich to a welcome 7 wkt win, after Jason Foulkes had earlier taken 5-57, the hosts’ 104-2 becoming 161 all out en-route to a third successive loss for them.

Division 1
Cheadle are out front in Div 1 after Josh Dooler’s second successive 5-for gave them a quite incredible win over Urmston at Kingsway. The visitors’ decision to field looked spot-on as they whipped Cheadle out for just 105, Urmston progressing serenely enough at 72-3 before Dooler induced a shuddering collapse, Urmston reduced to 91-9 before their last pair inched towards the winning line. Amidst high tension a catch was taken, Urmston all-out 102, as Cheadle celebrated, going 17 pts clear of Bramhall, who had a nervy win of their own. On a pitch where no-one scored freely, visitors Sale made just 176-9 in their 50, Bram indebted to Jack Clark’s patient 61 and an unbroken 7th wkt stand of 49 which saw them over the line with just three balls remaining. Toft were undone by the strength of the Macclesfield batting, especially Alex Thompson (71* off 68) and veteran Khalid Sawas (38), the pair adding 77 together to secure an impressive 5 wkt win chasing 223. Another side chasing well were Port Sunlight, their long ride home from Marple a happy one after they reached their 191 target with seven overs unused. At the bottom it was another black day at Broad Lane as Grappenhall were skittled for a paltry 57 by fellow-strugglers Davenham, the whole match done inside 34 overs as Davenham bagged the pts. Remarkably, Grappers was not the lowest total or the shortest game of the day, that dubious distinction belonging to Stockport Georgians, whose journey to and from Maritime lasted longer than the match itself. Opting to bat, Georgians crashed to 56 all out, Maritime only needing 34 balls to win it.
Division 2
In Div 2, Alvanley became the only 1st XI to have a perfect record after a tense 2-wkt win at Christleton in an absorbing contest. Chasing 187, Alv were 167-6 but lost two in two, Kenny Roberts holding his nerve in his second 1st XI appearance with 33* to steer his side home. Andrej Yaksender returned to the Bollington line up with 83, Ben Gibson adding 68* as Bolly beat Upton by 6 wkts to stay second. NE Cheshire recovered from 80-4 to get to their target of 189 set by Haslington, while Romiley won their derby with Stockport by 5 wkts. Oulton Park’s Andrew Dufty and Johnny Litler induced a sensational collapse in the Cheadle Hulme batting, the pair taking six wkts in nine deliveries without conceding a run between them, Litler claiming a hat-trick (across two overs) as CH, chasing 181, saw their solid position of 169-3 evaporate, and from 169-9 they inched to 180 before Litler took his 5th wkt, OP winning quite incredibly by 6 runs. Ashley beat AOM in the other match.
Division 3
In Div 3, the meeting of the top two was a very one-sided affair, Warrington taking 42 overs labouring to 102 at Heaton Mersey, a total inflated by 25 wides. Nachiket Verlekar then crunched 73* off 62 bs to secure an easy 8 wkt triumph for HM. Tattenhall stay third after a 71 run win over inconsistent Mobberley. After starting the month with a 10 wkt loss, Oakmere have won four in a row, their latest victory a handsome 108 run win over Middlewich, who donated 44 extras to Oakmere’s 246-6, skipper Craig Phelan making 63 (53 bs). Middlewich reached 77-2 but were all out 138. Winnington Park revived wonderfully at Barrow, their 144-7 turned 21 overs later into 251, the hosts giving it a real go after a 4th wkt stand of 108, but despite a brave effort WP held their nerve (and their catches) to win a great game by 10 runs. A bad day for the bottom two, Over Peover losing by 162 runs at Hale Barns despite having the hosts 157-7. HB’s no.9 Alex Read hammered an astonishing 101, adding 122 in 18 overs for the 8th, Read then taking 3-38. Runcorn went down at home as visitors Hawk Green won by 54 runs.
2ND XI CRICKET
Didsbury got back to winning ways at the top, beating perennial rivals Chester BH by 92 runs in a game dominated by the bowlers. Toft moved upto second after an edgy 3 wkt win at Stockport Georgians chasing just 118 after Matt Cornes had taken 5-20 in SG’s innings, SG back in the drop zone as a result. Oxton’s no.10 Mike Baker smashed 40* off 18 bs in an unbroken 9th wkt stand of 72 with skipper Mark Russell at Hyde, Oxton piling up a whopping 282-8 before Baker added 3-23 to his afternoon’s work, Hyde all out 144. Cheadle’s Drew Carswell carried his bat for 106* as his side totalled 245 at Nantwich, Oliver Briddock then taking 6-16 as the hosts plunged from 111-2 to 150 all out. Palith Kumara took 5-14 for Widnes as they beat lowly Neston, while Brooklands
won the battle of two other strugglers, beating basement side Timperley by 4 wkts.
Div 1 Lindow were bowled out for just 97 by Bowdon, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on the league leaders, Bowdon winning by 4 wkts. Upton thus made back ground they ceded last week, Marple’s long trip to the Wirral a painful one as they were all out 86, losing by 7 wkts, but Maritime’s journey eastwards was well worth it as they won by 9 wkts at Macclesfield. Didsbury 2A’s 7th wkt pair of juniors added 104 to take their side to 175 at Heaton Mersey, the hosts collapsing from 51-1 to 85 all out in reply, while Alvanley made it another afternoon to forget for Grappenhall, helping themselves to 265-9 before bowling Grappers out for 172. Sale beat Bramhall by 8 wkts in the other game, skipper Jamie Coombes making 72 in an opening stand of 113.
In Div 2 P.Sunlight revived from 145-7 in the 36th to post 232-8 against Upton, going on to win by 98 runs and stay top, while chasing sides Alderley Edge and Urmston both won – AE by 5 wkts at Haslington, Urmston by 27 runs over Warrington. Struggling C.Hulme had visitors Romiley 86-8 chasing 135, but Romiley’s 9th pair inched them home, while Oulton Park stay bottom after a 5 wkt loss at Stockport.
In Div 3 the last Timperley pair added 22* to snatch a dramatic 1 wkt win over leaders Ashley, who remain top, but Winnington Park in second closed the gap to one point, Chris Beesley making 108 as WP hammered Bollington. NEC are four pts back in third after a comfortable win over Tattenhall. Bottom side Neston went from 26-0 to 59 all out (Jack Wylie 6-24), Hale Barns knocking the runs off inside 7 overs.
