Week 19 – Many clubs took one step closer to their dreams of titles and promotions, a 2nd XI batsman hit an incredible 271*, and the Cheshire Cup finalists were decided on another great w/e of CCCL cricket.
PREMIER DIVISION
Crushing 9 wkt victories in the Prem for both Didsbury and Nantwich meant the top of the table stayed unchanged, Dids with a 32 pt advantage with three games remaining, 44 more pts being enough for Nick Anderson’s side to claim a second title in four seasons. On Sat, Anderson bowled 7 overs, claiming two
useful wkts as his side bowled Timperley out for 185, although he will have been disappointed with 31 wides bowled and a frustrating last wkt stand of 39 which boosted Timpers’ hopes. Chris Page followed up his 31 with an early wkt but thereafter Dids took complete control, Anderson a contented spectator as Tim Hughes hammered a majestic 107* (82 bs, 4×6, 16×4), adding an unbroken 174 in 21 overs of fantastic strokeplay with Chris Becker (69* off 61 bs) as Dids completed victory before the drinks break. Likewise, Nantwich were done before the drinks at Widnes, Ali Chugtai (81* off 69 bs) doing his former club no favours as he and Luke Robinson (78* off 57 bs) added a scintillating 159* in 19 overs.
Remaining fixtures:
Didsbury – Neston (h), Bowdon (a), Widnes (h)
Nantwich: A.Edge (h), Lindow (a), Chester BH (h)
Consecutive defeats for Hyde have all but put paid to their fading title hopes, and a disappointing weekend kicked off with them reduced to 53-6 at Chester, Rick Moore (5-31) continuing his fine season with the ball. Dave Fitzsimmons battled hard for some two hours to make 78* and help drag his side upto 205-8, but Hyde weren’t at their best in the field and old boy Noah Vickery (80) made them pay, Moore (23) hitting the winning runs with 9 overs to spare. A second win in their last three games has all but assured CBH of Premier Division cricket next season, while Neston are likewise just about safe now after a terrific August. Their third successive victory was a surprisingly comfortable one over visitors Brooklands, who – for the third time in four games – totally misfired as a batting unit, posting just 114 at Parkgate with extras (25) top scoring. Bryce Jose (50*) moved to second in the Prem’s leading run scorers table as his side raced to an easy win inside 19 overs. Only Didsbury have racked up more pts than Neston this month. The bottom of the table was shaken up by Oxton, whose terrible run of results was abruptly ended with a handsome 67 run win at Alderley Edge of all places. Skipper Henry Dobson made a fine 84, with other solid contributions enabling Oxton to reach 275-7 after being put in. Missing key players, AE never got going, despite a fighting 70 from Tejas Rao, Dobson taking 3-25 and Ali Crick grabbing a dramatic hat-trick as AE were all out 208. The 20 pts lifted Oxton out of the drop zone as Widnes slid back in, Bowdon the non-movers after another difficult day for them at South Downs Rd. Visitors Lindow chose to bat and stand-in skipper James Duffy led from the front, a classy 122
(108 bs) enabling Olly James (73) to flourish initially before Duffy and Dan Newton (77) added 205 in 29 overs of fabulous shot-making (their second 205 psp of the season, incidentally, as well as a 181 stand), battered Bowdon relieved when their 50 overs of torture was over with 322-8 on the board. At 60-6 in reply total ignominy was on the cards but a terrific 75 from no.7 James Bottomley and spirited resistance from the tail at least lifted the hosts to 184. But their destiny is not entirely in their own hands at this juncture, albeit just two pts separates the three bottom sides.
Remaining fixtures:
Oxton – Chester BH (h), Timperley (a), Neston (h)
Bowdon: Brooklands (a), Didsbury (h), Hyde (a)
Widnes – Lindow (a), Brooklands (h), Didsbury (a)

Division 1
Div 1 saw the top three all win with something to spare, Cheadle still in pole position after crushing Grappenhall in the mis-match of the day at Kingsway. Choosing to bat, Grappers had reached the relative calm of 32-0 before disaster, in the guise of Josh Dooler and Dan Brown, struck, the pair taking 9-29 between them as Grappers folded for just 72. Dooler’s 6-19 was his fifth ‘Michelle’ of the season, and he watched on as brother Adam, along with Ollie Tyson, knocked off the runs inside 17 overs. Urmston took some 47 overs to compile a buttock-clenching 130 at Bramhall, Jack Clark (65) and Nick Cantello (31) making sure with an unbroken 94 psp to secure an 8 wkt win. Macclesfield kept their promotion hopes alive with a 108 run win over Davenham, Alex Thompson (65 & 4-21) the standout performance in a low key game which all but spelt the end of life in Div 1 for the visitors.
Remaining fixtures:
Cheadle – Davenham (a), Bramhall (a), Marple (h)
Bramhall: Grappenhall (a), Cheadle (h), Davenham (a)
Macclesfield: S.Georgians (a), P.Sunlight (h), Sale (a)
Marple shook off wretched recent form to record a satisfying 8 wkt victory to ease their relegation jitters, visitors Sale all out for 210 at Bowden Lane, Tyrone Lawrence making 81 and Seb Schofield 50. Keagan Lynch added to his 3-27 with 31 in an opening stand of 74 before Max Fitzgerald (87) and Elliott Young (44) combined to add an increasingly assured 137. Stockport Georgians’ golden August continued with a third straight win, this one a real nail-biter as they won by 7 runs at Toft. Put in, Georgians only batted 42 overs, making 156, but their spinners (along with seamer Sean Duckworth) found the pitch much to their liking as Toft tumbled to 96-7. Dan Ward (31 after 3-20 earlier) then joined forces with Rohan Aggarwal as they inched the score to 139 before Aggarwal edged behind. Ward got the total to 145-9 before leaving the last man two balls to face, which proved to be two too many as Duckworth bowled him first ball. In the other match, despite a fine personal display from Port Sunlight’s Muzzamil Sheik (80 off 60 bs after taking 3-64), PS lost out in the Wirral derby to Maritime by 73 runs, Kalhara Sinhage making 79 and Sawan Kankanage 74 in Maritime’s healthy 266-9.
Division 2
In Div 2 Alvanley need just 13 more pts from their remaining three games to be assured of returning to Div 1 after a hard fought 5 wkt win at Ashley. Ammad Mushtaq made 77 – his 10th league half-century in 2025, along with two tons – as Ashley made 184. In reply Alv were in a game at 108-5 but Simon Gee (42) and Toby Honeysett (41) added 79 together to avoid any further drama. Bollington had it much easier as they needed just 12.1 overs to knock off 121 and defeat Ashton OM by 9 wkts, Andrej Yaksender’s rapid 61* taking his league runs tally to 1169, and Bolly to 300 pts, setting up their clash with Alvanley next week nicely. They moved 26 clear of third place Romiley after Upton won a close match by 15 runs at Birchvale Drive. Upton were in a strong position at 172-3 but the loss of Lee Dixon for 69 sparked a collapse as Upton folded for 188. Romiley flew out of the blocks but from 48-0 subsided to 105-7 as Dave Williams’ spin and Umer Zeb’s pace proved too much. Brad Snape (49 off 38 bs) led a typically pugnacious riposte but his dismissal was the decisive moment, Romiley eventually all out 173.
Remaining fixtures:
Alvanley – Bollington (h), Romiley (a), Oulton Park (h)
Bollington: Alvanley (a), NE Cheshire (h), Christleton (a)
Romiley: Ashton OM (a), Alvanley (h), NE Cheshire (a)
At the foot the situation could barely be closer as the three struggling sides are separated by just 11 pts. All three got a pasting on Sat, AOM at Bollington as already mentioned, Haslington beaten at Cheadle Hulme by 76 runs, and Stockport marmalised at Oulton Park, going down by 250 runs after OP racked up 332-5 without a care in the world. Danny Leech made a fine 107 as other batters enjoyed themselves, 28 runs coming off the penultimate over and 73 off the last 5 as Stockport fell to bits. Their batting didn’t even make it to drinks, all out 82 in the 22nd.
Remaining fixtures:
Haslington – Christleton (h), Stockport (a), Ashley (h)
Stockport: Cheadle Hulme (h), Haslington (h), Upton (a)
Ashton OM: Romiley (h), Oulton Park (a), Cheadle Hulme (h)
An entertaining game at Little Heath saw Christleton’s Max Dunvaband make 95 as his side held on to beat NE Cheshire by 19 runs.
Division 3
Div 3 leaders Tattenhall extended their lead after an arm-wrestle of a win at promotion (& title) rivals Oakmere. The hosts tumbled from 92-3 to 98-7 in a
laboured innings which ended in the 46th over with just 132 on the board, extras top scoring. Tatt were never really under pressure despite Matt Holland’s
5-20, reaching their target 5 down after 26 overs. That result, combined with a surprise defeat for Barrow at home to struggling Middlewich, left Tatt with
a 34 pt cushion to second spot. Middlewich had Kallum Boyle (10-3-35-7) to thank for an inspired spell of pace which saw Barrow all out for just 123. They
had been 80-8, however, and their confidence was quickly evident as they reduced the visitors to 35-5. Thankfully for Middlewich, Caleb McLaren stood
firm, his 46* guiding his side to a priceless 2 wkt win and a 21 pt cushion to the drop zone. Not for the first time this season, Mobberley lost a tight match
as Warrington nicked it at Church Lane, winning by 12 runs in a desperately tense atmosphere as Mobb edged towards their 187 target from the depths of
136-8. They got to 174-8 with some 10 overs remaining but two wkts in two balls shattered the hosts, Warrington thankful that the 45 extras they conceded
weren’t any more costly. With Over Peover conjuring a remarkable 3 wkt win over Heaton Mersey – Shubman Paliwal made a 62-ball 100 as OP got from
62-5 to 205-7 – it will be a nervy run-in for the bottom three, especially with OP playing Middlewich on the final day. Elsewhere Joe Cooper made 106* for
Hale Barns as they beat Hawk Green by 8 wkts, while Runcorn beat Winnington Park by 26 runs, WP going from 130-4 to 148 all out.
2ND XI CRICKET
2ND XI CRICKET: Victories for Didsbury and Toft meant that it will be one of those two sides who will be crowned Prem champions, Dids hammering Timperley by 94 runs (Jacob Mills 86, Adam Slater 74) and Toft chasing 197 to beat Brooklands by 4 wkts. The two meet next week at Booths Park and while nothing
will be decided then, it should be a fascinating encounter. Chester BH’s 70-run loss at Nantwich, where an in-form Jakob Jordan made 100 and took 3-33, meant that retaining their 2nd XI T20 Trophy next Sun is their only chance of silverware. A desperately tense finish at Werneth Low saw Hyde’s Jahangir Hussain take two wkts with the final two balls of the match to secure a 3 run win over Cheadle and a precious 24 pt gap to the bottom two, that despite an ex-
cellent win for S.Georgians over Widnes. SG and Neston remain stuck in the drop zone, the latter collapsing terribly yesterday at neighbours Oxton. 153-4 in the 39th needing 182 to win, Neston were bowled out for 162 – Mike Baker picking up his 50th wkt of the season – and Georgians travel to Parkgate next Sat in a big game for both sides.
Div 1 Andy Bennion’s 80* powered Alvanley to a 9 wkt thumping of Dids 2As, which, combined with a hefty defeat for leaders Lindow at home to Macc, meant the two sides are level on pts at the top. Upton are just 9 pts behind in third after beating Bowdon, while Chathula Fonseka’s 100 (70 bs) for Maritime in their 37 run win over Grappers moved them just 12 pts behind their Wirral neighbours. Sale’s 5 wkt win over Marple also kept them interested although it left Marple just 5 pts out of the drop zone, grateful at least that Heaton Mersey picked up just a point in their 9 wkt loss to Bramhall, and putting Mersey’s trip to Bowden Lane next Sat firmly in the spotlight.
In Div 2 a 47-ball 90 from Christian Wilson eased Alderley Edge to a 5 wkt win at promotion rivals Urmston, meaning one more win will put AE back into Div 1. Second place P.Sunlight were handed 20 pts by Oulton Park, who conceded, and although bottom side Stockport pulled off an excellent chase of 187 to beat C.Hulme they remain 37 pts from safety – OP are 32 adrift – both sides needing a miracle to escape.
Div 3 was all about Winnington Park captain Joe Stimpson, who smashed a league record-breaking 271* (143 bs, 8×6, 41×4) in his side’s monster 427-3 against Hale Barns on a stupendous afternoon for the Cheshire club. WP’s Rishad Ali then took 6-6 in their 354 run win. WP stay second in pursuit of leaders Ashley who beat Davenham. At the foot, Tattenhall won the crucial derby with Christleton by 8 wkts to put a 19 pt gap between the two clubs, meaning Neston cannot now escape after a heavy loss to Chester BH 3s.
