Beyond The Boundary – National Counties Cricket Association – Finals venues confirmed

West Bromwich Dartmouth’s Sandwell Park ground has again been chosen to host this year’s Durant Cricket National Counties Championship final.

It will be the fourth successive season that the ground has staged the four-day showpiece event with a central location close to the Midlands motorway network and the excellence of the pitches making it a popular choice of venue.

This year’s final will be played between September 7 and 10 between the respective winners of Eastern Division One and Western Division One.

The 50-overs National Counties Trophy final will be played at Chester Boughton Hall on July 13.

The last 12 Trophy finals have been played at Wormsley but the competition has now been switched to an early-season slot with Wormsley now the venue for the National Counties T20 competition’s Finals Day on August 24.

Last season Chester Boughton Hall hosted the Finals Day of the T20 competition when rain on two days in May and again on a rearranged date in September failed to produce a result in any of the three scheduled matches.

All venues have now been confirmed for the new National Counties season which starts with the opening round of National Counties Trophy group matches on Sunday April 27.

Oxfordshire are taking county cricket to Didcot’s Boundary Park for the first time with Buckinghamshire the visitors for a T20 double-header on June 15.

Oxfordshire will also be playing at Abingdon Vale as the home county for the first time with Devon the visitors for a Trophy match on May 5.

The Hales Meadow ground was previously used as a home venue by Berkshire until 1975 with Oxfordshire playing there three times as visitors before Abingdon became part of Oxfordshire following boundary changes in 1974.

Oxfordshire are also returning to Challow & Childrey for the first time in six years with Berkshire the visitors for a T20 double-header on May 25.

Cumbria will play their Trophy match against Cambridgeshire on May 11 at Kendal and their Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Eastern Division Two match against Northumberland between August 17 and 19 at the Furness club in Barrow.

For the first time since 2000 the Manor Park ground in Horsford is missing from the National Counties fixture list as Norfolk have switched the two Championship matches there were scheduled to be played there in July to Sprowston.

Norfolk were unable to reach agreement with the Horsford club to continue playing at Manor Park.

All of Norfolk’s home matches this season will be played at Sprowston with the exception of the opening match in their defence of the Trophy against Suffolk on April 27 which will be played at Fakenham.
