Farsley v Woodlands
Toss:Â Won by Farsley
Farsley 247ao (49.3 overs) Ryan Cooper 81, Jonathan Read 40, Henry Pearson 3-75
Woodlands 232-8 (50 overs) Mosun Hussain 71, Brad Schmulian 65, Scott Richardson 44, Joe Pocklington 5-53
Result:Â Farsley 18pts bt Woodlands 7pts by 15 runs
For the second week running, Farsley were indebted to the veteran wisdom of Ryan Cooper as they secured a statement victory against Woodlands at Red Lane.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Farsley were ailing at 47-3 when Cooper came to the crease in the thirteenth over. He and skipper Ben Wright steadied things with a 49-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but they struggled under the pressure of Woodlands’ experienced spinners of Kez Ahmed and Brad Schmulian. Cooper then saw Wright and Jack Moran depart in quick succession to leave Farsley at 103-5 in the middle of the 33rd over.
Another of this young team’s veterans, Jonathan Read, arrived to the crease and brought some much needed attacking impetus to the innings as he and Cooper put on 90 for the sixth wicket off the next 64 balls. Woodlands’ bowlers, even as they would dismiss Read and Cooper with 4 overs to go, could not stem the flow of runs as some late hitting from Ryan Blackburn and Seamus Nazir helped them to a very competitive total.

Woodlands, who have lost opener Matty Weston to a season-ending shoulder injury, saw Sam Frankland dismissed early by the excellent Calum Fletcher, bringing skipper Schmulian to the crease. Schmulian and Mosun Hussain survived many close calls, LBW and run out appeals early on as Fletcher and Wright regularly threatened to dismiss them.
A second close run out chance left Hussain hobbled, with Woodlands beginning to worry if they were about to lose both halves of their dominant opening partnership from the start of the season. Despite obvious pain, Hussain continued to bat as he and Schmulian put together a 102-run partnership for the second wicket.

The delayed introduction into the attack of Joe Pocklington in the 26th over of the innings transformed the contest, as he bowled Schmulian and Cieran Garner in successive balls, before Ryan Blackburn also secured a wicket with his first over in the 27th, bowling Henry Pearson for a golden duck.
Scott Richardson then joined Hussain as they tried to repel the now buoyant hosts. Hussain, now batting with a runner, and Richardson began a counterattack as they tried to catch up with the rapidly increasing required run rate – putting together a 74-run partnership off 89 balls before Hussain succumbed to a rash shot and was caught off Pocklington in the 42nd over.
Two overs later, Richardson became Pocklington’s fourth victim as the evergreen Cooper took an outstanding catch in the deep. Elliot Richardson departed three balls later and it was left down to Muhammad Bilal to try and hit Woodlands to victory. Bilal managed one towering six, but found the going particularly tough against the high-quality death bowling of Fletcher, who would claim his wicket caught and bowled in the 47th over. Despite the occasional boundary, Alex Kaye and Kez Ahmed were similarly tied down by Farsley, ending the innings 15 runs short of Farsley’s total.
Methley v New Farnley
Toss:Â Won by New Farnley
New Farnley 232-8 (50 overs) Fletcher Coutts 62, Usman Arshad 41, Aidan Langley 38, Ben Waite 3-28, Taylor Cornall 3-31
Methley 195ao (44.5 overs) Alex Cree 68, Jared Warner 40, Fletcher Coutts 5-26
Result:Â New Farnley 19pts bt Methley 5pts by 37 runs
New Farnley continued their unbeaten start to the season thanks to an outstanding all-round performance from Fletcher Coutts, as the defeated a Methley side who may feel they let a possible victory slip away from them.
Without the injured Steve Bullen, Aidan Langley was the senior partner in a 62-run opening partnership with Jonny Phillips as they saw off Methley’s opening bowlers. When Ben Waite was introduced to the attack in the 12th over, he dismissed Langley LBW off his first ball to start a remarkable collapse as he and James Wainman took three more wickets in the next three overs to see New Farnley fall from 62-0 to 70-4.
This brought Coutts to the crease, as he and Ryan McKendry set about rebuilding the innings as Methley piled on the pressure. Waite picked up his third wicket when he removed McKendry with the score on 109-5 in the 22nd over. However, Coutts and Usman Arshad were able to resist whatever Methley threw at them, putting on a valuable 76 run partnership of 114 balls to help their side build a more challenging total.
Even as Coutts, Arshad and Adam Ahmed fell to Cornall late on, New Farnley were able to bat their overs and set Methley a competitive target to chase.
Methley’s innings did not start well, with openers Cornall and Kris Ward falling early to leave them 33-2 in the 11th over. However, captain Jared Warner and Alex Cree were then able to repel New Farnley’s varied bowling attack for a partnership of 85 off 87 balls, with Cree looking particularly fluent.
When Cree was prized out by Adam Ahmed in the 25th over, the game was firmly in the balance as Methley were ahead of the rate and still had seven wickets in hand. The introduction of Coutts into the bowling attack in the 33rd over would change the course of the innings however, as he dismissed Jake Smart and the well-set Warner.
In his second over, he would remove James Wainman and Methley’s middle order were now all back in the pavilion. Coutts them proceeded to run out Liam Thomas in the 40th over, before taking two of the final three wickets to fall and finish with 5-26 from just 6.5 overs.
Townville v Pudsey St Lawrence
Toss:Â Won by Pudsey St Lawrence
Pudsey St Lawrence 184-9 Mark Robertshaw 42, Jack Hughes 3-34, Dulaj Ashen 3-41
Townville 188-2 (40 overs) Jonny Booth 67no, Kieran Collins 52no, Jack Hughes 49
Result:Â Townville 19pts bt Pudsey St Lawrence 3pts by 8wkts
Townville got back to winning ways as they cruised to an eight-wicket victory against Pudsey St Lawrence.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, St Lawrence regularly found themselves building promising partnerships only to then lose a couple of wickets and have to rebuild again.
Despite five partnerships of 25 or more runs, each one would be broken to then see a second wicket fall in quick succession, as Townville’s spinners, particularly Jack Hughes (3-34) and Dulaj Ashen (3-41), applied the pressure. This left St Lawrence with a seemingly under par total of 184-9 from their 50 overs, leaving them hoping their bowlers could make early inroads and prey on Townville’s poor form and confidence.
Townville’s opening pair, as is often the case, started slowly in their chase as they put on 35 runs in the first 11 overs before Abdul Wahid was bowled by Archie Scott. After that, St Lawrence kept the run rate low but struggled to dislodge Jonny Booth or Hughes as they put on 89 for the second wicket over the next 20 overs.
When Chris Marsden prised Hughes out LBW for 49, they may have hoped that they could keep the pressure on and cause some nerves within the Townville lineup. However, Kieran Collins showed his class as he took the attack to the bowlers with an unbeaten 52 from just 32 balls, with nine fours and two sixes, to see his team home with 10 overs to spare.
Carlton v Undercliffe
Toss:Â Won by Carlton
Carlton 381-6 (50 overs) Naveed Malik 134, James Glynn 98, Aqib Shah 61, James Van CDer Merwe 57
Undercliffe 314-7 (50 overs) Suraj Singh 86, Oliver Hardaker 59, Danish Hussain 54, Kyle Welsh 44, Aqib Shah 3-47
Result:Â Carlton 19pts bt Undercliffe 6pts by 67 runs
Carlton triumphed over bottom side Undercliffe in an absolute run fest, where 695 runs were scored between the sides.
Choosing to bat first, Carlton saw opener Aarush Shinde dismissed in the second over to leave them 6-1. Opener James Van Der Merwe continued his excellent form with a run-a-ball 57 as they helped set a strong platform for their side with Aqib Shah (61).
At the half-way point of the innings, Carlton had lost both van der Merwe and Shah but were well-set at 150-3 to push on towards a high score. Whilst the runs were stymied for a time, as Undercliffe also dismissed Dan Ford cheaply, the fireworks began when skipper James Glynn joined the impressive Naveed Malik at the crease in the 31st over.
They proceeded to plunder 188 runs from the next 110 balls, with Malik scoring 95 of those in just 48 balls before being dismissed for 134 (87 balls, 16 fours and six sixes). Glynn then took up the mantle as he tried to score a quickfire century of his own, falling two runs short when he was run out with two balls remaining and trying to retain the strike. Undercliffe’s spinners took the brunt of the punishment, with Mohammed Suleman hit for 90 off his ten overs and Jude Roberts for 114 from his 12 overs.
There have been many occasions this season, chasing much smaller targets, that Undercliffe’s batting line up has folded cheaply. However they did put up a creditable performance on this occasion, with Danish Hussain (54), Oliver Hardaker (59) and Suraj Singh (86) all passing 50 as they tried to get close to Carlton’s mammoth target.
Shah was the pick of the bowlers for Carlton, picking up three wickets in the middle overs to stymie any realistic hopes Undercliffe may have had of victory. In the end, they ended up 67 runs short of Carlton’s total, but with four valuable batting bonus points which could prove crucial at the end of the season.
Bradford & Bingley v Cleckheaton
Toss:Â Won by Bradford & Bingley
Cleckheaton 194ao (47.2 overs) Yousaf Baber 51, James Stansfield 34, Udith Patabadige 4-43
Bradford & Bingley 195-2 (35.2 overs) Jacob Slator 85no, Ben Moffat 63
Result:Â Bradford & Bingley 20pts bt Cleckheaton 3pts by 8wkts
Bradford & Bingley cruised to a dominant victory against fellow strugglers Cleckheaton, led once again by their in-form batters Jacob Slator and Ben Moffat.
Cleckheaton were put into bat by Slator and once again saw their top order fail as they fell to 23-3 in the eighth over of the innings, with Bingley’s overseas seamer Udith Patabadige their main tormentor.
Cleckheaton were just starting to rebuild with early-season stars Yousaf Baber and Khizer Qadeer, before the introduction of Bradley Reeve in the 12th over saw Qadeer depart for 19. Baber then saw Aaron Ratnalingam depart cheaply before he found a supportive partner in young Bradley Sylvester to steady the ship once more.
They put on a partnership of 47 before Sylvester was caught and bowled by Billy Whitford, and then Lachlan Doidge departed for nine following a run out. Cleck skipper James Stansfield (34) struck some clean hits in partnership with Baber, who reached his fifty off 89 balls before Patabadige returned in the 42nd over and bowled him. Despite Stansfield’s resistance, Cleck ended up all out with 16 balls remaining when Stansfield became Patabadige’s fourth and final victim.
Slator and opening partner Callam Goldthorp saw that there were no early alarms in their chase, putting on 76 for the first wicket as they put Cleck’s opening bowlers to the sword. Even when Goldthorp and Billy Whitford fell in quick succession, Slator continued to bat unthreatened whilst the excellent Moffat attacked the spinners, scoring an unbeaten 63 from 49 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Slator ended unbeaten on 85 from 110 balls as he continued his impressive start to the season as Bingley raced to victory with over 14 overs to spare.
Jer Lane v Baildon
Toss:Â Won by Baildon
Baildon 217ao (46.5 overs) James Skingle 46, Callum Rainger 44, Hector Bowerman 38, Will Kelly 35, Muhammad Aamir 5-46
Jer Lane 221-6 (48 overs) Kyme Tahirkheli 67, Sam Johnson 54no, Yasir Ali 45
Result:Â Jer Lane 20pts bt Baildon 5pts by 4wkts
Baildon once again came close to an upset victory against a higher placed opponent at Park Avenue, before succumbing with two overs remaining.
Choosing to bat first, Baildon saw captain Kevin McDermott and Jonny Reynolds dismissed cheaply and Jer Lane may have been thinking they were in for an easy afternoon. But resolute performances from the remainders of their top and middle order saw them at one point 173-4 with 16 overs remaining in the innings.
Jer Lane turned to the spin of Muhammad Aamir (5-46) to change their fortunes, and he would deliver as he took five of the six remaining wickets to fall and dismiss Baildon for 217, who were all out with 19 balls remaining in the innings – something which they may now look back on with regret after a close defeat.
Jer Lane had opener Kyme Tahirkheli in good form, and he started positively whilst losing three partners in the first 12 overs – leaving them 55-3. He then found an excellent foil in keeper Sam Johnson, who was able to repel the buoyant Undercliffe bowlers as Tahirkheli attacked from the other end.
When Tahirkheli was bowled through the gate by Seif Hussain, Jer Lane were 115-4 in the middle of the 26th over, still 103 runs away from their target. Hussain then pressured Ahsan Bhatti into hitting a return catch to leave the score at 128-5 at the end of the 30th over.
Johnson was joined by captain Yasir Ali, who went on the attack as he hit 45 from 39 balls in a partnership of 76 in the next 14 overs. Johnson reached his 50 at the end of the 43rd over, off 90 balls, before Ali was bowled by Will Smith at the start of the 45th over with his side still 14 runs short of victory. Amaan Ali and Johnson completed the chase with two overs to spare, with Ali finishing the game in style with a six and a four off Abdullah Ijaz.
