Week 6 saw the beginning of the Prem’s win-lose-draw phase as the driest May on record ended. The rain helped some but hindered others, although many dry outfields were glad of a soaking!
PREMIER DIVISION
As teams donned their whites and geared up for the demands of 110 overs cricket, a sensational match at Brooklands grabbed the Prem headlines. From 79-5 the hosts battled hard to reach 167, skipper Kevin Carroll (49) top-scoring. In an unprecedented start to the CBH reply, their powerhouse top three of
Alex Money, Warren Goodwin and Rick Moore were all out for 0 (three of eight ducks in the match) as the board read 6-3. A brief revival was snuffed out at 48-4, and a strong CBH line-up staggered to 83-9. With the match all but over, skipper Jack Williams (who had earlier taken 4-34) found a staunch ally in George McCormick, the pair carefully accumulating with Williams reaching a fine 50 (54 bs). The tension could hardly have been higher as the pair spent over an hour together, adding 68 before AJ Hart finally induced a thin edge from Williams to the keeper, the heartbroken CBH skipper barely able to believe what had happened as Brooklands celebrated a 16 run win (successive Prem wins too). CBH will look to regroup quickly and continue their recent good record against Didsbury, the unbeaten league leaders at Filkins Lane next Saturday. Dids crushed Alderley Edge by 143 runs on Sat, just beating the rain at Wilmslow Rd. Dids took 121 off the last 19 overs mainly thanks to Sam Leech’s 51* which saw them go from 166-5 to 287-7 as AE took almost 4 hours to complete their overs. Liam Booth was quickly amongst the wkts, snaring Sam Perry for a duck and Arav Shetty for a fluent 42 (Shetty earlier 17-5-51-4) as AE fell away. A stubborn 8th wkt stand spanning some 20 overs threatened to derail the Dids charge as the weather closed in, but skipper Nick Anderson took three wkts in six balls to wrap up a big win just in time. 82* from Charlie Barnard and 62 from Luke Young enabled Hyde to declare at Werneth Low, setting Oxton 259. With injured skipper Henry Dobson unable to bat, Liam Bowe’s 5-29 saw the visitors slide from 89-2 to 136, the 24 pts taking Hyde to second, although just four pts separate five sides close to the top. Timperley are in that cluster after a hard-fought 4 wkt win at Lindow, Chris Page taking 5-36 as Lindow went from 153-4 to 182 all out. Two games were abandoned – bottom side Widnes likely more frustrated than visitors Neston after Aaqib Uppal’s bril
liant 125 had seen Widnes set a 240 target, Neston 155-5 off 36 when the rain came. Nantwich did well to keep visitors
Bowdon to 205 after Bowdon were 102-2, Nantwich 50-2 off 12.3 when they were washed out.

Division 1
Josh Dooler led his Cheadle side from the front, his 49* and 5-29 a key part of the 20 pts and top spot gained in gained in Div 1 as they beat high-flying Sale by 55 runs, brother Adam (54) making the game’s only half century. Toft’s James Hodgson was another bowler with a ‘Michelle’, his 5-23 helping brush Davenham aside in just 36 overs, Toft up to second after their 134 target was reached inside 22 overs, Henry Hughes 60. It was a different story al together at Port Sunlight, Bramhall’s Jack Clark (105 off 122 bs) and Greg Dixon (62) opening up with a superb 165 stand, 53 from Liam Molloy seeing Bram sitting pretty on 271-6 – or so it seemed. PS skipper Simon Melbersz hammered a wonderful 115* (86 bs), with Richard Walker’s blistering 83 (64 bs) setting a base for Melbersz and Wayne Greve (46) to add 148 as PS won by 8 wkts in the 45th over. Urmston found themselves upto sixth after making it another chastening
day for bottom side Grappenhall, who conceded a horrific 67 extras (incl. 49 wides) at Moorside Rd, an unbroken 9th wkt stand of 80* in just 10 overs adding salt to Grappers wounds as Urmston’s 275-9 was way too many, James Bashford cashing in with 5-10 (to add to his earlier 47) as Grappers folded for a feeble 107. Macclesfield (by 7 wkts over Maritime) and Marple (by 9 wkts over Stockport Georgians) had comfortable victories.
Division 2
In Div 2, Alvanley maintained their perfect record after a rain-affected 16 run win over NE Cheshire, while Bollington kept up their pursuit in second, Bolly’s fantastic form seeing them past 300 for the third time in six games. This time it was Ben Gibson (120) and James Heathcote (64) – and 52 extras (incl. 42 wides) – as Stockport were plastered all over Cale Green, Bolly 302-7 before blowing the hosts away for 105 (Ben Perry 56). Chris McArthur (69) continued his wonderful form for Upton as they swept Ashley aside by 8 wkts at Old Greasy Rd, while Christleton made it three wins in the month as their moderate 237-8 proved more than enough at The Beets, Ashton OM (77) recording a double-figure total for the third time in May. Not surprisingly AOM remain at the foot, 18 pts adrift, although the four teams above them are separated by just two pts. Haslington did themselves a power of good, skittling Oulton Park for 103 (extras top-scoring) and bagging a 7 wkt win, while Cheadle Hulme cruised past the mercurial Romiley by a whopping 141 runs, CH’s Tom Balderson taking 5-36 to go alongside a handy 30* as, a week after knocking off 264, Romiley – after reaching 94-3 – were all out for 108.
Division 3
In Div 3, although the margin of victory needs clarifying, Tattenhall were the first side to inflict a league defeat on Warrington, Corey Bovey (85) and Ryan Spann (77) adding 149 as Tatt won a rain-affected fixture. Heaton Mersey couldn’t take advantage, however, falling in a heap chasing just 170 at home to beat Hale Barns. Joe Cooper and Alex Read each took 3-31 as HM went from 59-1 to 139 all out. Mobberley surprised themselves with the margin and speed of their win at Middlewich, Ibrar Latif (85* off 55) and Will Beresford-Ince (41* off 84) providing the perfect contrast as they added 142* together in just 20 overs, Mobb winning by 9 wkts just after halfway in their reply. Barrow came a cropper after their long trip to Hawk Green ended in a 57 run defeat, while Winnington Park remained in the nether regions of the table after an assured Oakmere beat them by 7 wkts at Park Rd, Matthew Worsdale (73) and Zach Howdle (72*) securing the points. The meeting of the bottom two resulted in a hammering for Runcorn, Over Peover only needing 12.4 overs to knock off the 91 they needed.
2ND XI CRICKET
Didsbury recovered from 48-6 to post 159 at Cheadle, Tom Bidwell’s 79 (adding 54 for the last wkt with skipper Ryan Wilson) the mainstay. Cheadle were 118-3 but collapsed, the last pair surviving a run-out controversy to inch the hosts home by 1 wkt. Chester BH and Toft both closed the gap on Dids to two pts, CBH making short work of Brooklands, who went to the foot as a result of their 6 wkt loss, while Toft’s lower order got them from 130-8 to 197 before bowling visitors Widnes out for 83. Nantwich survived a late wobble to record a nail-biting two wkt win at Oxton with just two balls remaining, the Dabbers 171-1 at one stage chasing 220, Tom Corran (5-23) almost nicking it for the hosts. A superb 101 (99 bs) from Hyde skipper Chris Mackenzie took his side to 289-6 in a 90-over game at Neston, the hosts nowhere near on 200-6. Finally, joy for Georgians who moved off the bottom with their first win of 2025, winning at Timperley by 4 wkts and leapfrogging them into the bargain.
In Div 1 Lindow maintained their 28 pt cushion over Upton after winning by 4 wkts at Marple. Having lost by a 1 wkt margin the week before, Upton won by the very same margin in a low-scoring thriller at Bramhall, Upton up a gum tree at 48-6 chasing 131, but stirring stuff from the lower order grabbed them a precious win. Maritime were also 1 wkt winners, lowly Alvanley kicking themselves after having Maritime 106-9 chasing 175, and remarkably, Didsbury 2As won by 1 wkt for the second week in a row, their last pair scrambling two off the final delivery to leave Sale’s Jared Moran (92, 3-35 and a catch) especially crestfallen.
In Div 2 the top three all won comfortably, so P.Sunlight, Alderley Edge and Urmston, who bowled Romiley out for 91, stay as they were. At the foot, three pts separate four sides, Cheadle Hulme belying their poor start by thrashing the Oulton Park attack all over Little Budworth, 348-4 reached in their allocation before skittling the hosts for just 113, OP sliding to the foot as a result.
In Div 3 Ashley won the meeting of the top two, beating Winnington Park by 82 runs. An unbroken 4th wkt stand of 133* helped NE Cheshire to a 7 wkt win over Davenham, NEC staying third. CBH’s Kam Hornby took 6-44 as his side demolished Hale Barns by 10 wkts, while there was joy in Bollingtonia, an egregious struggle at the foot with basement side Neston 3 seeing Bolly reach their 99 target seven wkts down.
