Heavy Woollen Cup Draw Creates Some Tasty Ties

The 2025 Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup is set to once again captivate Yorkshire cricket enthusiasts with its rich history and competitive spirit. Established in 1883, this esteemed 50-over competition has evolved from its original 18-mile radius restriction from Batley Town Hall to now encompassing 32 clubs across six Yorkshire leagues.

The draw for the first round of this years Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup has thrown up some interesting ties and two all-Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League clashes.

Townville have a tough home test against Yorkshire League North side York but perhaps the match of the round is the encounter between Huddersfield League champions Moorlands and their arch rivals Hoylandswaine.

The all Bradford Premier League encounters see Woodlands face Pudsey Congs and Bradford & Bingley play hosts to Carlton.

New Farnley, bidding to reach a fifth successive final, start their challenge away to Aire-Wharfe League side Burley-in-Wharfedale. Holders Wakefefield Thornes are also away to Aire-Wharfe opposition as they travel to Bilton on Sunday, June 22.
