Premier Division
Leaders Stockton retained their top spot after matchday 7, but with a margin reduced to 6 points following a 4-wicket defeat at Marton – still undefeated and the closest challengers as the season reaches a third of the way complete.
Tom Hewison made 31 and Reyan Nadeem 44 but it was first Alex Wardell (3-46) and then later Sam Berry (4-41) who controlled the visitors and limited the final total to just 145/9. Berry has now reached 23 League wickets for the season, only led by two professionals. From 19/2 in response, Jon Spillane (34) and Lee Hodgson (32) steadied the innings and Marton were home in just the 26th over.

Barnard Castle’s bright start continued with a 7-wicket home win over Great Ayton. Suminda Lakshan sits second in both the run scoring and wicket taking lists in what has been an impressive start to life in the NYSD, and he made 76, a lone hand in an Ayton total of 144 all out. Karl Carver took 3-23 in 10 overs for Barney. James Clarkson batted through the reply for 67* and he was given support by Rich Borrowdale (31) in a chase that took almost 35 overs to leave Barney just 8 points adrift of the lead.
Looming up into fourth place are Champions Richmondshire, who would appear to have put a faltering start behind them. Only Gary Pratt (36) and Sam Wood (32) stayed for any length of time as Middlesbrough’s Fez Hussain recorded his NYSD best figures of 8-44 in 13.3 overs of left arm spin. 167 all out at Hurgill Road would normally appear to be well short, but an opening 8-over blast from Josh Dowson (5-27) left the Boro batting in tatters and only 32 from No. 10 Ahsan Shrindal took the total as far as 83 whilst Shafi Ghafari (4-29) mopped up.
Darlington RA continue to prosper at fortress Brinkburn Road, the latest win by 119 runs over Norton. A mammoth 298/6 was built around a 3rd wicket partnership of 162 from Parth Palawat (72) and Sachithra Serasinghe, whose 152 was a Premier Division best so far in 2025 and was made from just 124 balls. Tom Cross took 3-60 for Norton, who then lost two early wickets and were up against it from the start. Craig Symington made 65, Joe Emmerson 37 and Kenzie Peakman 34, but Ajmal Shahzad (4-36) and Matthew Pillans (3-61) helped end the visiting effort in the 48th over at 179.
Saltburn were handed a hammering at Hartlepool, having no answer to the bowling of Scott Borthwick (4-33) and pro Harsha Vithana who took 5-9 in 8.4 overs, the innings collapsing from 50/1 to 87 all out. Kyle Davis was 59* in a 10-wicket win for Pool.

Leading run scorer Brandon Lusk made yet another half century to anchor Bishop Auckland big chase at Stokesley. Lusk made 91 to almost carry his side home – 119 for the third wicket in partnership with Craig George (66) – before the Aussie was eighth out with 22 still required to overhaul Stokesley’s 258/7 declared. The Bishop tail found the runs to win, despite 4-75 from Fin Morris which had seemingly put the hosts back in the game. Earlier Andrew Weighell remained undefeated on 88 and pro Sahan Nanayakkara added 41 before Stokesley declared after 48 overs. George preceded his runs with 3-47 from 15 overs.

Division One
Billingham took over at the top after trouncing Seaton Carew at Chiltons Avenue. 5-12 in 5.2 overs from Martin Cull brought the Seaton innings to an end at just 72 in the 24th over, 164 runs shy of the mark posted by the hosts. That total came courtesy of 60* from Tonius Simon – the second player to pass the 300-run mark in the Division – and 41 from Tom Wing. Seaton’s leftie Jack Turnbull collected a creditable 4-48 in 15 overs.
Marske fell to defeat at home to Thornaby for whom Luke Gettings moved to a division-leading 21 wickets with 5-55. Lewis Harper added 3-56 and Marske were all out for 140. David Seynour made 79 and leading run scorer Danny Clark 36 in Thornaby’s 6-wicket win.
Bedale travelled to Darlington and had little resistance to the home attack, headed by two of the prominent wicket takers in the Division, Ollie King (3-28) and Liam Burgess (3-25). 3-21 from Ben McCall had the Quakers in some trouble at 26/4, but 34* from Oli Clarke ensured Bedale’s 89 all out was overhauled with 6 wickets to spare.
Guisborough will be hoping a first win of the season will be a springboard to a brighter summer. Nathan Bell made 42 and Matthew Hood 63* in his first game of the season as the Priorymen made 229/6 at home to Richmondshire, for whom u-17 Raam Raj took 4-63. Martin Philpot (3-54) and Brett Roberts (3-32) had the Dalesmen reeling at 30/5 but first u-17 Max Percival (42) and then John Clark (43) battled hard until Guisborough joyfully claimed the final wicket with just 3 balls to go and the visitors on 168.
Aussie amateur Zac Grundmann has made an instant impact at Barnard Castle, following up last week’s runs with 6-51 from 12.4 overs to dismiss Normanby Hall for 142, with only Jordan Leech passing 30. U-17 Will Poole (43) and skipper Richard Watson (63*) ensured Barney picked up a fourth League win from 8 played, a healthy return before the end of May for the promoted side.
Homegrown seamers David Budd (5-34) and Ned Hampson (3-24) led the Sedgefield attack that dismissed Wolviston for 146, despite 42 from Faheem Uddin. 62* from skipper Ben Swindale saw the hosts to a 5-wicket win.
Division Two
Despite having played a game more than most, Darlington’s win at Saltburn and results elsewhere meant that they extended their advantage at the top from a single point to 21 points. U-15 Syed Haque took 5-22 in 9 overs and limited Saltburn to 148 all out, only Lewis Hart with 39 offering significant resistance. Sam Morrison took 3-22 after the break, but an even 50 from Andrew Peacock shepherded the visitors to a 4-wicket win.
Rockliffe Park’s 13-run defeat at Acklam Park was one of the more unpredictable of the weekend’s results. Aaron Lawson top scored with 47 for Middlesbrough in 143 all out, as leading wicket taker Mark Swanwick (3-39), James Layfield- Carroll (3-58) and u-16 Isaac Tate (3-8) made it look like business as usual for Park. U-14 opener Xavier Lockey made 38 before becoming the final victim of u-16 Veeraj Singh (4-42 in 15 overs) and later Aatrayo Daw took 4-14 to render Dan McGuire’s valiant 77-ball 35 a losing effort.
Leading run scorer Greg Upton failed to make a half-century for the first time in his five Division Two innings this year, but only just. Upton’s 49, added to by 51 from Jacob Dinger took Shildon to 204/8 at home to Hartlepool, for whom Joe Stewart grabbed 3-40. Ollie Mole made 44 and in-form u-16 Patrick Curtis 41 but Joe Knowles removed both on his way to 4-46 and with Cordie McKendry adding 4-32, the Railway collected a 20-run win.
Whitby made the not insignificant hike inland to Northallerton and ran into Christiaan Bourbon-Leftley on a big day. U-17 Rhys Buck made 57 and Alf Jacobs 42, but the South African u-19’s two spells netted him 6-49 and the Seasiders were all out for 196. Tom Steyert took 5-50 in 13 overs and Town looked in trouble at 102/6, before Jed Clarkson (50) joined Bourbon-Leftley (55*) in a seventh wicket stand of 89 that decided the issue.
Marton’s second string ensured the club had a Saturday double over Stockton. 6-48 from Harry Holmes spearheaded the Marton attack and, with Scott Kirby adding 3-45, Stockton could only make 146 all out. Made to work throughout the order by Chris Blackwell (4-33), Marton got home by 4 wickets.
The only drawn game came at Norton, as skipper Joe Haines made 63* to take the hosts to 219/7, Michael Rix claiming 3-55 for Redcar. Matthew Stokeld made 51 of Redcar’s 188/8, as Lewis Day completed a good day with 5-36 in 15 overs to add to a useful 35.

Division Three
Stokesley collected a welcome win having chosen to field at Newton Aycliffe. Home opener Terence Smit continued a productive season with 78 as Aycliffe made 173/9 in 40 overs Will Redpath (3-45) the most successful of the visiting attack. An unbeaten 57 from Craig Baptist helped Stokesley maintain their top of the table ranking with a 5 wicket win.
Second placed Whitby fought to a win as Jay Allison (5-51) and Matthew Sharpe (3-24) limited Yarm to 158/9 at the Turnbull Ground. U-16 Jack Stentiford made the game’s best score of 54 after the break and the Seasiders got home with 2 wickets in hand.
The top two have both played more games than the chasers, of whom Maltby lead the way having despatched Sedgefield at Francis Park. It was a pair of Charlies – Lythgoe (5-21) and Henry (3-26) – that reduced the visitors from 89/2 to 132 all out. Sam Irvine’s 83* took just 61 balls as Maltby coasted home by 6 wickets.
Great Ayton kept up good recent form having made Thornaby struggle to 138/8 at Leven Park. Jon Grainge made 48 in a rare appearance for the 2s and u15 Matthew Collingwood added 52 in a 7-wicket win.
Joe Swallow (3-15) and Hari Krishna Ananthaneni (3-41) found success at either end of the innings as Blackhall bowled out Normanby Hall for 96 at Welfare Park, Jawaad Ahmed running out of partners with 49* on the board. The home reply could barely have got off to a worse start, falling to 9/3, but 54* from Dylan Elliott saw the Colliers home by 5 wickets.
Rockliffe Park defeated Guisborough by the same margin in the day’s other game chasing down 160 with double-figure contributions from the top six. Waheed Mughal (4-38) and Karthik Nataraj (4-31) did the damage with the ball in the early part of the day for Rockliffe.
Division Four
The top two went head-to-head on Saturday and it is now firmly advantage Billingham, after they got past Skelton Castle by 3 wickets. 4-30 from Adam Greenwell was the main factor in Castle only being able to reach 120 all out, u-17 Jack Verrill with the game’s only significant score of 43. Verrill junior, u-15 George, took 3-21 but Synners’ win takes them 38 points clear of their opponents, albeit having played a game more.
Richmondshire closed to within 4 points of Skelton, despite being held to a draw at dogged Wolviston. Skipper Griffin Bewell (71) and u-14 Theo Carey (48*) featured in the visitors’ score of 196/9. Shiraz Hussain took 4-25 in 10 overs for the Wolves, but that was as good as it got as they showed little interest in the chase to reach 86/7 in 40 overs. Michael Platt took 4-14 in his 10 overs.
Maltby collected a fifth win of the season in the day’s best game at Preston. Amal Mohan was dismissed just four short of a first NYSD hundred, but that was enough to lift a fast-scoring Maltby to 210 all out in just the 31st over. Habib Hussain took 4-48 and Aamir Ali 4-37 to ensure the scorers were never bored. With 49 overs to seek the win, Danny Brookes opened with 42 and the home batters kept up the pursuit, needing 15 from the final two overs with two wickets to fall. With 2 balls to spare, the hosts were dismissed for 201, Matthew Kelly (4-36) ensuring visiting fans had stars in their eyes.
Darlington RA also have 5 wins from eight games. Owen Dixon’s 4-31 put Bishop Auckland in trouble and, though Ethan Dowson made 48, they only reached 132 all out. RA took just into the 23rd over for a 6-wicket win.
Northallerton u-15 Eliash Willis made 49, but Bedale u-17 James Pratt returned 4-17, before the home third wicket pair of James Trueman (44) and Harry Gatenby (50) ensured Bedale chased down 146/8 in some comfort.
Marske u-16 Andrew Fowler led a 5-pronged attack with 3-24 as visitors Newton Aycliffe were all out for 123. Gary Lynch was 45* in his first game for the club since 2023, the hosts 8-wicket winners.
Sunday Divisions
A quiet week for the Sunday Divisions this week, with only the Premier Division having scheduled games.
Marton’s Mark Green batted through the innings for 130* as his side racked up 239/3 at Norton. Consequently, the hosts lost their100% record, but not to defeat in a game for openers batting through. Ankith Rangan’s 101* is a maiden century for the u-19 player and 54 from Alan McCallum saw Norton reach 192/5.
Hartlepool’s 5th win in seven sees them lead the way. Dom Barlow made 56 out of 205/8 and then Izzy Hussain (3-33) and u-17 harry Griffin (3-19) put Wolviston under pressure at Armstrong Park. It took until the final over, but Pool triumphed by 54 runs.
The Sunday outlook for Redcar still appears cloudy, but the hung on grimly to draw at home to Darlington. Sam Cull (77) and u-14 Luke Frankland (68) added 128 for the opening Quaker wicket and 41* from James Bendle boosted the tally to 251/5 made in the full complement of 40 overs. U-15 Syed Haque then got to work to take 3-12 in 8 overs to put the hosts under pressure. Despite trying 8 bowlers, Redcar were not to be budged at 113/9.
The game between Richmondshire and Normanby Hall was unable to start due to the weather – thereby becoming the NYSDs first full league cancellation of the year. On June 1st. Can’t complain, eh?
