Repurposed from a message sent by our great friends at Lancashire Premier League champions Lowerhouse CC
This time of year has a habit of slowing us down, just enough to look back. At the matches that stuck with us, the people we shared them with, and the moments that reminded us why cricket clubs matter far beyond the boundary rope.
Across the Premier Leagues and the wider club game, cricket is about more than results, promotions, or silverware. It’s about community. It’s about the changing room chats, the volunteers who quietly hold everything together, the supporters who turn up year after year, and the clubs that become a second home for so many.
But Christmas can also be a difficult time.
Behind the handshakes, the banter, and the familiar “you alright?” exchanges, there are people carrying more than they let on. People feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or simply worn down by life outside the game.
So this message is for all of you.
Players, captains, coaches, umpires, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who gives their time, energy, or love to club cricket.
If things feel heavy right now, please remember this: you don’t have to deal with it on your own. Cricket clubs have always been places where people look out for one another. Sometimes that support is obvious. Sometimes it’s just a quiet conversation, a shared walk, or sitting with someone who listens without judgement. Those moments matter more than we often realise.
You are not a burden.
You are not alone.
And how you’re feeling matters.
One of the great strengths of club cricket is togetherness. Whether it’s community walks, social events, quiz nights, post-match teas, or simply being around familiar faces, these small connections can make a big difference. You don’t need to have something to say. You don’t need to explain yourself. Turning up is enough.
As we head into a new year, let’s carry forward what truly counts. Kindness. Checking in on each other. Making space for honest conversations. Remembering that the game we love is at its best when it brings people together, on and off the field.
To everyone across the Premier League Cricket Club community: thank you for being part of what makes club cricket special. Take care of yourselves. Look after each other. And if you need a bit of light this Christmas, know that there’s always a place for you within the game.
Merry Christmas, and here’s to a healthier, kinder, more connected year ahead.
