National Counties T20 Finals Day – Abandoned Again!

The National Counties T20 ended without a winner after rain again washed out the rearranged Finals Day at Chester Boughton Hall.

None of the matches were completed when the event was originally scheduled in May even though a reserve day was used.

The NCCA Board had extended the season by four days in the hope that better weather would allow the matches to be played, instead it proved to be third time unlucky.

Heavy overnight rain followed by more during the day led to all three matches – the semi-finals between Cumbria and Oxfordshire and Staffordshire v Berkshire, plus the final – being abandoned without a ball bowled.

Umpires Bilal Shafayat, Connor McGarry and Mohammed Waseem along with the competition’s technical committee took the decision to abandon both the second semi-final and the final after a 1.30pm inspection with pools of water on the outfield.

It was the first time that either the T20 or 50-vers National Counties Trophy had failed to produce a winner and meant a soggy and disappointing end to the National Counties season.
